When my chicken drinks water, she spits it out again!!

I had 20 chickens for the past 2 years and only this year is when problems started to arise. We just recently had one chicken die from respiratory problems, but now another one is suffering. She seems to only drink water and soft fruit like blueberries and raspberries. The only thing is that when she drinks water, half the time she spits it back out. She is also favoring her left leg and her crown and waddles are pale. We try separating her from the flock in the daytime because she keeps getting attacked. I examined her and have researched a bit online but nothing it bringing me closer to the cause... PLEASE HELP!!

Does she drink her water to fast? Maybe she has a hard time swallowing it? These are just speculations, if you can reply I might be able to help. If your hen is getting enough nutrition, she might be fine. But the paleness might be because of dehydration, if she’s an old girl I say let her go. But that’s up to you, I’m just not one to prolong a chickens life, but it’s your flock and your decision. Hope she gets better needless to say!

Thanks, and yes she drinks water all the time, non-stop unless there is no water available. she has been doing this for about a couple weeks now and because there is no progress of her getting better or worse, I not sure of what exactly to do. I would rather help her to get better, but if I had to take her to the vet for medicine, i would just send her to the chopping block seeing that she is just a chicken.

Well if she’s getting nutrition and laying well I don’t see culling her necessary, but that’s by opinion. I’m not here to judge what you do with your hens. Don’t go to the vet, majority don’t treat poultry. Unless you know they do for certain, I’d advise not to do it. I can’t answer the paleness question, maybe just age. Well I hope she does well and it’s entirely up to you to keep her. Best wishes to the rest of the flock!
