I started with 4 chicks. My husband said (the next day) "you might as well go get 2 more"....ummm OKAY!!! Those are Buffs, then I thought that a couple Barred Rocks would go nicely with them. That takes us up to 8. THEN I fell completely in love with a single little Light Brahma at the feed store....9. That same day, yeah I know, I took 'one last look' in the bins. Add 3 Easter Eggers to the flock...12. I had a hen go broody and hatched one (Charlotte, buff/barred cross)....13. Fell in love with silkies....20. Decided Australorps would be great in the flock.....22. At TSC I felt bad for the bantams that were left....24. Latest additions are Cochins and a Delaware....31. Holy cow we have THIRTY ONE CHICKENS!!! Honey, how did you let me do that :lau Just kidding, my dear, sweet, patient husband has put up with my antics for quite some time. We are still in the process of building our...well MY...dream coop. And yes, I'm making it cutesy and girly and silly :clap
I wake up every morning and drink coffee from my crazy chicken lady cup (no joke) and I smile when I hear the boys crowing away. I love the different colors of eggs I collect and I love giving eggs to my older siblings, it makes me happy.
So if you're a crazy chicken lady (or gent) like me, hold your head up high and claim that title!
Happy Chicken-ing BYC'ers :frow:jumpy

I love this!! Cheers to my fellow Crazies!! :highfive:

I just came out to my friends online as an official Crazy Chicken Lady yesterday. :jumpy

It started when we moved spontaneously from downtown to an acre in the hills....which came with a tiny little prefab red barn chicken coop. Of course, that would never do for my brand new EIGHT mixed chicks I forced my husband to begrudgingly drive nearly two hours away for...so I've been working on renovating the old horse stable turned turkey run.

With dreams of a beautiful egg basket filled up by every colour and size of egg, I of course had to take home those two Easter Eggers I saw while I went to pick up mealworms....and I could not resist my dream chickies there too- so I added in two Polish chicks and two silkies (all they had left!)

Of course, my Welsummers turned out to be something else, so now I NEED a different dark egg layer (Marans, I'm looking for you!!)

And none of my ladies will be laying until late July at best, so I'll probably end up picking up 3 or 4 (or 8) laying hens as soon as I can snag them too.... :wee

I knew of course that I had crossed the threshold of Crazy though, when I found myself painting pearlescent blue eggs to go with the crystals I'm hanging from my ornamental chandelier in the coop to offset the chalkboard "Rise and Shine Mothercluckers" sign I meticulously handcrafted. :lau
