Hi!So I am having a bit of a hard time figuring out when I should start providing oyster shells to my flock of 13 1/2 week old pullets. I would normally just provide them now but my buff Orpington is a little bit lacking in the brain and will gorge herself on anything new. It took multiple weeks to get her to eat grit like a normal chicken so I am pretty worried she would eat tons of them which I know isn’t great for non laying birds.

here is the offender in all her chickeny glory staring at a wall

They won't need it until they actually start laying.

How did you get her to not gorge on the grit?
Ok thanks. I pretty much just put small amounts in a bowl and would do my best to detract her with treats, free ranging time, etc or would just put it in at night. I would just do this every couple days and slowly increased the frequency and amount of grit as she began paying less attention to it.
