I have 6 Rhode Island red chicks which are about a month old. I am feeding them chick food; they throw a lot out of the feeder apparently looking for something or being kids so to speak. When should I change their feed to something more substantial?

Substantial? At a month old they should stay on starter for at least another two to four weeks. Then go to a grower. If your feed is a starter/grower they can stay on that then switch to layer after they start to lay. Or you can go to an all flock with a calcium supplement on the side at that time. At three weeks or so I usually switch to a feeder with higher sides or elevate the feeder so they a have a harder time throwing out the feed.

Thank you so much and I will do as you advise. Bill+
