When to move babies outside? Having a mental break down. :)

We have had babies before and moved them at 6 weeks outside and never had an issue. the new babies are almost 5 weeks and 2 nights in a row I have tried to coop them outside and as soon as it gets dark they start yelling. They are in the run all day but the minute the sun goes down they holler. We are not "supposed" to have chickens here but have gotten away with it so far. I am stressing thinking all the neighbors can hear the babies yelling outside) so I give in and bring them into the house. ((Yes, I am a over protective chicken mama)) It prob isn't even nearly as loud as I think it is but is there a way to make them stop or make them feel better about being out there?

is the temps dropping at night? maybe they are getting cold. if not you could try a couple solar lights?

Do they have a heat lamp?? We move our chicks out to the brooder at 1 week then out to the chick coop at 3 weeks, I have 7 week old chicks that just got moved to the inbetween pen, first night without a lamp, we have an acre and we could hear them clear in the house, went out, hooked up their heat lamp and they settled right down, gave them a few days and turned it off and they were fine...Figured it was them needing to get used to there new home

It's pretty warm here in FL so I don't think it is the cold so much as they are used to us being with them. they are a bit spoiled already and get lots of cuddles and love at ngiht while we watch TV- but I can't have 6 house chickens so out they had to go. Maybe they need a night light? Wonder if the neighbors would notice a light..I have a shed- I could gradually move them and start them in the shed int he brooder instead I guess. Then the noise would be less at least.

OKay- Fingers crossed tonight- I put a night light on the shed- and they seem quiet. I keep putting my head out the door to listen. AHH The stress is making me crazy.

You can always stick a black CFL light bulb into the brooder lamp. THis way they have just a bit of light and no heat.

They might not like being in the dark (not knowing your set up). Putting the light in there was a good move.
