When to prepare nest boxes?

My girls were born May 1. So sometime early September I'm guessing they will begin laying. Their boxes have been blocked off at this point so they won't sleep in there. How do I know when to get their boxes ready?

Seriously, do you know how to do the pelvic test to determine laying condition?

We built out nest boxes when the girls were 16 weeks old and they started laying the 17th week. One or two of our girls would lay in the run until they figured out that those feelings meant to get in the nest box.

Basically, you feel around the pullets butt to determine if she is loose and pliable, ready to lay.
