When to put chicks outside.

its 'never' safe for chickens outside lol .. in warm weather though i put chicks in a covered secure pen outside in 1 week, cuts way down on maintenance ... its youre job to keep them safe though, im still learning after 15 some odd years raising chickens on how to best go about things .. that said, its when things are going great and your not expecting it, when bad things happen ..

Hi,

I have 3 5 week old silkie chicks - when will it be safe to let them outside?

Thanks
Silkies are behind in developing like other chickens. I would put them out during the day, but not overnight unless it's above 26.7C.

Ours go out during the daytime, weather permitting, at just a few days old, but we bring them in every night. When they are about a month to 6 weeks old, depending on the temps, and they can get used to taking it a bit colder then, but still if it's cold at night, we have a cozy coop panel heater for them.

Week 4 is 80F or 26.7 C .
