Hi, I've just moved the chicks to their coop, they are 6-7 weeks old. When do we need to put in a roost and how high? When do we need to install the nest boxes? The coop is 10x 12 with a ceiling high enough that I can walk around in on one end. The only thing in there is their feeder and waterer. They spend some time out in the run too. Do they need anything to "play on"? I don't want them to be able to get up on anything and then out of the run ( it is 8 ft tall with no roof).

In my opinion you can put the roost and nesting boxes in there any time you want. The chicks will not be laying for several months and if there are no nesting boxes when they do start laying they will make their own somewhere. As far as roosting rails go put them in any time, too. Since the chicks are young you may want to start out with a roost at 12" and one at 24" high. Eventually they will use them. Later you can raise the one from 12" to 36".

Also please let the little boy out of there - he has been in time out for 6 days now
