I usually don't keep a rooster with my hens, but have decided to try to hatch a batch this spring. The rooster was placed with the hens about a week ago, nature has been takeing it's coarse, but how long should I wait to start saving eggs for the bator? how long will eggs stay viable while gathering enough to incabate?

they should be good to go....

I like to get eggs in the bator within 7 days. Some folks wait as much as 10 but I have not had great success with the older eggs

have you been over to the okie thread?

The general rule of thumb for good fertility is about two weeks with the rooster. If you notice that he's doing his roosterly duty though, they could be fertile now, but I'd still wait a couple of weeks just to be sure.

thanks, one more question.................how do you store the eggs while i am collecting them??? thanks again
