when to start giving grit?

My babies are a month or so old, and I have been letting them go outside for a couple of minutes each day, in a little run I built. There are pictures here

Question - if they pick at grass and worms outside, do they need grit now? THANKS!

Congrats on the babes!

Mine get grit from day one. I just set a shallow pan or several full of paving sand in the chick house or brooder. They eat it and wallow in it.

Wal Mart has a bag for next to nothing.

My chicks received grit from day one. I sprinkled a little on the ground and they had a field day just pecking around

I had a lot of pet birds when I was younger & I just think that birds need a little bit of grit, no matter how old. They are now 2wks and no probs

I picked up a box of hartz grit that they market for pet birds and mixed it with the larger chicken granite and let my kids go to town

They seem to love it and are grit-a-holics.
