Hi.

When it is ok to start giving my little darlings kitchen scraps? They are 4, 4 and 5 1/2 weeks old and have been foraging eating grass and bugs from day one (along with their crumbles). When can I start giving them scraps from the kitchen? What are your chickens' favorite snacks? I've also read that giving them flax seed can make them give high omega eggs. Is that true and when should I start that if so? They're so precious. I want them to have yummy (healthy) treats to make them smile. Thanks! :)

If they are out in the yard eating, they should be ready for scraps. Things with seeds are a big hit around here. Tomatoes, cucumbers, left over eggs, rice, extra cooked meat. In fact, they can pretty much eat anything that you can eat.

this. I give my broody-raised chicks scraps from the first week or so. Make sure they have grit or are free-ranged so they can pick up natural grit to grind up all the treats. Mine eat pretty much anything that doesn't eat them first! Any scraps from my kitchen are fair game for the birds. Some things they don't care for as much, but any fruit/veggie/bread/meat/grain go over well.

Thank you everyone. I'll start giving them kitchen treats tomorrow.
