when to switch chicks from growers to layers

I was just going to post this same question. No Replys yet???

For production breeds, I'd say about 18 weeks, or once they start laying. Or, just add oyster shells after they start laying, and use whatever feed you want.

Do you feed oyster shells with layer feed? I just switched my chickens to layer feed, so I was wondering if they need oyster shells too.

At 16 wks, I bought a bag of layer pellets, planning to start it when the grower pellets ran out. When the first egg came at 18 weeks, I mixed layer pellets into what was left of the grower pellets, so it's about half and half for the next couple weeks. I sprinkled the oyster shells on the ground with the grit. Hopefully, this is all okay.
