when will they stop girdling my apple trees!?

all the geese are kept in an orchard with chickens adn turkeys...I noticed recently they started killing my small apple trees! will they do this in winter or all year long? even with grass available?

How small are the seedlings? Anyway you can put some mesh fence around them?

Loosely wrap hardware cloth (.25 inch) around the trees. The cloth should be tall enough to keep your geese from stretching their necks over it. Oh, and overlap the edges so you can expand the circle as the trees grow.

They will stop only when you put fencing around the trees.
