we are looking to buy some new hens, to add to our e rir and l welsummer, myn huisband wants white chickens to lay brown eggs and I WOULD LIKE SOME GOLDEN YELLOW CHICKENS TO LAY BROWN EGGS AND STILL BE ALL COMPATIBLE AND GOOD LAYERS, LAYING EGGS NOW, NOT CHICKS CAN anyone telle best place to buy them wew live in upstate new york. Also, is poultry auctions a good idea to buy them from, or craigslist

Look out for chicken swaps, you could go to auctions but often those are not as productive birds for some reason or another - overworked/ old / poor quality...

This might not be true up there. Oh and please stop screaming, caps lock button is on the right hand side of the keyboard, its actully harder for me to read all caps then 'normal' or 'correct' typing the letters run together and its harder to read.

You can advertise on this forum. You can go to chicken swaps. You can use Craigslist. You can put a sign up in the feed store if they will let you. You can talk to your county extension agent, in the phone book under county.

With any of these, I'd advise reading Buff's quarantine and flock integration page. Here is a link.

With any of these, you will be somewhat at the mercy of the integrity of whoever you get the chickens from. Once they reach maturity it is very difficult to tell the age of a hen.
