My Coop
My Coop
So, the other day I separated out my 3 spare cockerels into a bachelor pen on my summer garden area so they could clean up weeds and work the soil some while waiting to either sell or eat. Today I let them out of their little coop and all day they went in and out -- except the one time that one of them flew out and alternated between going over to stare at the rest of the flock and then coming back to stare into the bachelor pen.

After dark I went out to close up -- prepared to stuff boys through the pop door if they'd tried to roost in the run.

No boys.

I looked all around. No boys.

I looked over to the other fence, expecting to see them hunkered down nearby after having tried to get into their old home.

No boys.

DH came out to ask me a question and I told him I'd lost my boys.

He said "You had three of them in there when I came home."

I said "Right. That's how many I put there."

Then he heard them. They were sitting on the heat pump -- where they'd apparently gone after they were unable to get into their old home. I didn't have a pair of trauma shears in my pocket but I'll have to put one into my winter jacket.

Next boy caught out gets his wings clipped.
