Hello,

I was wondering where do you all purchase your layer pellets. I like to give my girls organic feed but with 25 chickens and 3 ducks it gets very expensive. Do you guys recommend any store that doesn't break the bank?

Thanks

I go and buy my feed at the local feed and seed and the ace hardware.
They don’t eat a lot of it though because
they free range around.
My girls have a large area in my back yard. During good weather they don't eat much pellets because they eat lots of bugs or whatever they find in the yard. However, during snow months that's when they eat more pellets.
Thanks for the advice.

Try to find a local food mill! I found mine through a lucky accident: The lumber store where i used to buy the pellets for my ducks was out and i was scouring the area where the pellet bags were stored and found an orange tag with the composition of the pellets and the address of the producer. Turned out they are located just in the next village and i buy all duck feed there ever since.

.27 per lb in bulk from a local mill in Somers,CT. I do not buy layer feed so I don’t use it but I will likely buy the bulk Meat Maker 22% for when I do meat birds this spring. The whole organic marketing to me is just that marketing. The only place I see the benefits of organic is vegetables that I consume directly due to not using pesticides. Aside from that I wouldn’t waste my money on Organic.
