Where is my egg?

Than they probably ate a broken egg. Hard to understand what's in the picture. Is that a nest box? Why no bedding in the nest box? Is the surface hard? If my chickens lay out of the nesting boxes, on hard surfaces, often the egg cracks when it falls out of the chicken's bum.
Just keep an eye on it, if it happens again then there's a problem, if it doesn't happen again than it's nothing to worry about.

It looks like all that is left are a few tiny bits of shell. Almost all of the shell is gone. The yolk is totally gone but some of the whites are left. I find it interesting that there is no sign of the yolk but a fair amount of whites are left. I can't think of any wild critter that would leave something like that though I think it is possible something opened the egg and ate the egg and the chickens cleaned up the shell. The only other possibility is that the chickens themselves ate the egg and shell.

I don't consider a chicken an egg-eater unless they purposely open an egg to eat it. I've only had one of those. It is normal for some chickens to eat an egg that has been broken, that does not bother me as long as they are not breaking them on purpose.

I can easily envision an egg getting broken by them scratching around, especially if they were locked in there. I would pay attention and see if it is repeated before I got to upset. Accidents happen. But if it happens again, you need to check into it.
