...in small amounts? I would like to keep some on hand for emergencies. With 13 hens and 12 chicks I don't need the large quantities I've been finding at the feed stores.

THANKS

Ahhh...the eternal struggle...how to buy meds for a small flock and not a thousand head...If you find a way to do it, let me know. I would love to find a cheaper alternative to what I am doing now.

Actually, I joined a poultry co-op years ago and we shared stuff. It made things much more affordable. Alas, over the years the co-op fell apart as people stopped doing poultry for various reasons. If there is a chance that you could create a co-op in your area then this is probably your best bet. I used to drive and walk through my town, and if I heard birds in the yard I was walking by, I would stop and introduce myself. I still get an occasional call to help newbies out with euthanizations and things too unsavory for new poultry keepers to deal with. I don't mind mind that I am known as the "Chicken Whisperer" in my town.

Now, I only buy meds and catgut on an "as needed" basis.

Have you tried asking your vet to sell you a few supplies or meds that you need? My vet has been pretty helpful, and I'm sure there are people on BYC that might share in an order of something with you. There are also some friends here that I have made online who will share things they have in large quantities, and will tell you names of the best places to order from.
