I have a prescription from the vet for meloxicam tabs for my chicken. I went to chewy. My order went through and the vet verified the prescription with chewy. Then a day later Chewy sent me a message saying they can't fill rxs for food producing animals. Other vet rx websites seem to indicate that meloxicam is only for dogs, etc. Is there anyone online that fills chicken prescriptions? I can and likely will buy them from the vet but they are five times more expensive and I'll be buying these for months. Thanks for any info.

I have a prescription from the vet. Chewy accepted my order for it. Eventually Chewy sent me the next message saying great! Your prescription has verified and your order is being fulfilled! And then eventually I got a message saying they cannot fill prescriptions for food producing animals.

Basically I'm asking if anyone has been able to get meloxicam rx filled by anyone other than the vet clinic.

I haven't had any luck with Chewy, Petco, Tractor Supply, etc because it's off-label use. You'll have to get it directly through the vet that wrote the script.

Edited to add, my vet recommended children's Motrin. I don't know if that would be an option for you.

Absolutely try your local human pharmacy. My vet doesn't carry the sedative we use for our dog during the 4th of July fireworks spree but I get it no problem at my human pharmacy with a script from our vet.

Wow, interesting. I've seen so much saying that ibuprofen (motrin) is quite dangerous for chickens. I know baby aspirin in smaller doses is sometimes ok but possibly a bleeding risk problem?

I emailed several online pharmacies:

Valley vet - they didn't really answer the question about chickens and meloxicam but just said they have meloxicam 15 mg tabs

California Pet Pharmacy - said they can fill the prescription but also didn't address the chicken/melox specifically. They have pretty poor online reviews and I'd never heard of them before this search.

Entirely Pets Pharmacy - no response yet

Heartland Vet Supply - said the same as chewy, can't do it because it's a chicken and its meloxicam

Vetster - I don't know anything about this site. They wrote a very kind response email and said they don't have a pharmacy that fills prescriptions. They suggested trying 1800 pet meds or Mixlab.
