I 'd like to try and pick up a couple ducks for brooding my runner eggs. Other than Muscovies ,(which I don't wish to use), what and where can I likely get a good chance of getting broody ducks? Not a production hatchery? I have Holderreads runners and mini's and have ordered more & some Hookbills--- but am looking at other breeds mid-size or better for setting eggs naturally. I was thinking domestic mallards, but are the ones at hatcheries bred out of brooodiess. I am considering Saxonys and Silver Appleyards...

Anyway if anyone knows of a good lead for me to find a good line of broody ducks. my mini-Overberg hatched out 2 runners last year , her first and did a good job, but mini's can only cover so many runner eggs

Have you called and talked to Dave or Millie Holderread? They are very knowledgeable and quite helpful.
