We will be building a coop soon.
For laying hens, 4-6 of them. I'm leaning towards 6

We live in Pa, where we get harsh winters.

I'd LOVE suggestions to what would be the best placement of a coop.

Option#1:
Re-purpose our old swingset that were going to scrap. We can use it as a frame, and keep the coop up off the ground, have an underneath caged in area, and another small run off to one of the sides.

Option #2/3
There are 2 corners we can use here- to the right of the left of the railroad tie and against the wooden "wall". This touches the neighbors property, but they gave permission.

Both areas have hose access, we can run electric, are close to the house, and shade trees.

What is your opinion?

Huh... I like the setting of the swingset area... and trust me, you'll want a pretty back drop cuz youre gonna be watching them and the coop outta amazement.. lol and they will do the egg song, so even the quietest birds get loud at times.. and the neighbors say yes now..but will they after the hens start singing.

I agree with Kassy on this one.

Also, it'd be nice to "re-purpose" something you were going to throw away anyhow. If you use that in the area it's in that's one less thing to have to worry about.

And I also agree with regards to the neighbors maybe changing their minds. Better to be safe than sorry!
