Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know of a local place to purchase DE? The several Feed and Supply stores I talked to don't carry it nor do they special order it. The closest I found was Stall Dry.

I even went to a local pet store and the clerk never heard of it and her coworker said it was "illegal" to use. Hum, sounds like some sort of drug or something!

Thanks in advance.

Where are you in the Bay Area? I bought mine at Sam's Feedstore in San Jose. They have it at the front of the store in 2lb bags for $2 or 5lb for $5. I confirmed with the store that it is food grade DE.

Great thanks for the info. I'm in San Francisco and tried a called a bunch of feed stores and they either didn't know what it was or didn't sell it.

Thanks

Maybe it'll be worth the drive to SJ and get a 50lb bag if they sell it that big. I just bought the 2lb bag and been using it for like 2 months now and still have some.

Hi! I just purchased a bag of DE from Lowe's in South San Francisco. I think a 5-lb bag cost about $8 a couple of weeks ago. The original intent was to use this in our garden on our vegetable plants to deal with the bugs that were eating our veggies (mostly earwigs.) Make sure you get the stuff that's for the garden NOT for swimming pools. When I went to look for it, the first thing the Lowe's staff showed me was the stuff for swimming pools.

At Lowe's in S.SF, go to the garden center -- there's a shelf OUTSIDE the main store in the garden center full of plant fertilizer and the DE you want.

I was hoping to use DE for both feeding to the chickens (every so often) and also for sprinkling it on the floor every week. For the deep litter method, wouldn't I be like sprinkling a handful or two? So a 2 pound bag might not last 2 months?

Thanks for the heads-up about Lowes. I drive past it a few times a week, but never thought to look there. I know the feed stores in Half Moon Bay and Napa don't have any.

I only have 4 chickens so maybe you'll run out of it faster than me. I don't use the DLM, I just put low cardboard boxes under the roost that has hay and DE in it. I dump it out once a week.

I had to order mine as well.. Could not find it anywhere around me. So I found it on Ebay.. You only want the Food Grade

Anyway, the place is Wolf Creek Ranch in Lake Elsinore , C A 92532-7322 (not sure from the way the address is written if that is the city)
I only paid 25.00 for the 50lb bag , but the shipping to Michigan was $30.00 (still cheaper then everything thing else in smaller packages)
Hope this helps and youre close to them.. Kim
