So I know this is a bit random, but my husband works for a Canadian company and we've been given the opportunity to move over from the UK.

I'm pretty keen, but honestly Canada is so vast I don't know which locations we should start looking at. My husband works remotely so he can work anywhere with a decent internet connection and we have 4 kids aged 1-12 so we need access to schools.

Weather-wise we would like warm summers that are largely dry and some snow in the winter as my kids enjoy skiing. They are very amateur though, so a few trails nearby is fine, we don't have to be half way up Whistler. We need affordable housing and would prefer a bit of space around us rather than an apartment or townhouse.

So in an attempt to start narrowing my search down I'm asking where you would live if you had similar requirements to us?

Vancouver. The climate is relatively warm... some snow. skiing in Whistler,
not too far from Vancouver.
I absolutely fell in love with Chiliwack.

Sounds like BC or Alberta or Ontario which is kinda the banana part of Canada , all have somewhat warmer winters and mountains etc .........all depends on what you want to pay for ? BC as are that other provinces are costly housing wise ..........remote would be more affordable ..............Here in Manitoba we have quiet a few from Britain who have settled in and around the area , cold winters though and beautiful summer

I have been fortunate enough to have been across Canada from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland. Took an extended road trip when I drove across the bottom of the provinces and up to Alaska and back across the top as much as possible.
So much of your choice depends on what you like, some of which you have explained, but finances will play a huge roll.
Vancouver is beautiful but very expensive. Several relatives live in the interior but I find the mountains claustrophobic after awhile.
Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba all have their cultural and physical charms. Might want to check out their annual forecasts though. I would say the same for the maritime provinces. Newfoundland is decidedly my favourite but I wouldn't want to live there in the winter.
Quebec is a vast province again with lots of areas of culture like Montreal and Quebec City. Lots are affordable areas. Do you and your children speak French? Might want to do some research on Quebec politics and social systems.
Born and raised in Ontario so I confess some bias. Toronto is very expensive and Ottawa is becoming like wise. Kingston is a lovely city on the shores of Lake Ontario with a world class university and lots of prisons. I love the area around Kitchener-Waterloo and London. Would also recommend looking around Brockville and Peterborough. The more north you go, the longer the winters.
Good luck in your search. I look forward to hearing more about your choices.
