OK all you EE'ers!!! i bought 3 EE from MPC in November.....new years day one of them crowed. the other two are definite girlies. i rehome the roo (no easy task) and wait and wait and wait for my 2 green/blue eggs....at 22 wks. they both layed brown eggs....i'm so disapointed. is this normal or just my luck?
I guess that just means.. you need more chickens, right?
I bought 3 EEs from our feed store. One I am pretty sure is a rooster, which I can keep, but not what I wanted. Then the other two will hopefully be laying by the end of the summer. I am already planning to get 4 more chicks, since that ONE is probably a roo. This time I am looking for some pure ameraucana chicks. We will see. I think that is what they call "chicken math".

Sorry you didn't get your blue or green eggs
It can be a big disappointment after a long wait.
Not really surprising though ~ this is a quote from MPC's EE page
Please note: This variety of chicken can lay blue, green, pink, white or brown eggs (or any color in between). There is no guarantee as to what color egg your hen will give. Each hen will give ONE egg color. The egg color will not change from one egg being laid to another. For example, if your hen has just laid a green egg, then don't expect the second egg to be pink.
Many people think the EEs only lay green or blue eggs and are surprised when they get something else. It all depends on the genes they have.
I raise & sell some EE's that are Ameraucana/Cuckoo Marans hens covered by an Ameraucana roo ~ with these genetics there should be only blue or green eggs from them.
I have 3 bantam EE's they all lay blue eggs the EE bantam I lost my first winter laid an green egg. I got 2 new EE's from feed store I am hoping for a green egg. If I don't get a green egg I will hatch some of my bantam's egg the rooster came from a brown egg layer so I should get green eggs. I wish there was some one around me that sold true Ameraucana's or Olive egg layers.
LOL! My four MPC EEs lay green eggs, but different shades thereof. DorisDoris lays an almost blue egg (and she has more Ameraucana traits), Matilda lays an Olive egg, Ursula lays a gigantic light greenish white egg, and ElsieJr. lays a light green egg.
Now.. it did take them a few weeks to settle into that (so, I disagree with the MPC quote above), and I still see slight color variations from day to day. Just like my Wellies sometimes give me a plain brown egg and other days give me a speckled one.
PeepsBMobbin, LOL! Yep, already ordered 3 more from MPC !!!!! What is WRONG with me?????!!!!!!! I mean, REALLY?!!!!? 2nd wk of May i have one EE (to replace the roo), one SS, and one BR arriving....can't wait!!!!!
