Hi there,
We're new to the backyard chicken thing, have had our birds since this time last year. We're thinking about culling the flock (do people say that?) and aren't quite sure which birds to choose.

We have an Easter Egger, which I don't think would be appropriate, but the other birds we have might be. We had a dark cornish, an australothorp and a wyandotte. I know the dark cornish is a definite, but I'm looking for a recommendation on whether the australothorp or the wyandotte would have better meat.

Anyone have a recommendation?

thanks!

You could do them all if they arn't laying. They sound a bit young to be culling already but some people like to have fresh birds every year. Most likely they would be good stew birds and not the best on meat but you may get a little depending on how big they are.

Hey. It's not that they aren't laying, it's just that we are finding 4 chickens to be a bit much for our relatively small backyard. We live in Oakland, CA, so our backyard is a little small for so many birds...
