Which Breed to Get

I can't speak from experience as I have so very little . However I can read and know you are wanting a brown egg laying purebred , ruling out many of the types others are suggesting . If you want a breed that is likely to brood its own eggs rather than have to incubate them , thats going to narrow the field also . If you're happy with your current orps , I'd get some more if I was in a hurry to increase my flock ; or breed the ones I have if I wanted to rebound more slowly .

If you are just starting with chickens you might consider getting birds or chicks from a local person for two reasons. 1) you know (or can reasonably presume) that the birds are suited to your climate area ect. 2) you can meet and get to know another chicken person for all those questions that are bound to come up..... Sorry to sound like a broken record, but DELAWARES

cold hardy, dual purpose, great layer of large brown eggs, friendly, quiet, and pretty!

Plus you have the added bonus of having a breed that is on the "critical" list on albc.org

What's not to love!?!?!
