Are there any duck breeds that don't need as much water? Specifically interested in the "White Layer" breed: https://hoovershatchery.com/WhiteLayer.html

We have a couple of muscovies, who don't seem like they like to swim much. Mostly just water for drinking and putting their head in. Looking to know if White Layers, Pekins, Silver Appleyards, etc are similar.

Muscovy don't like water as much as the Mallard-derived breeds. All domestic ducks other than Muscovy are mallard-derived and they all love water and need a lot. Muscovy still like water and need a water dish big enough to bathe in.

All of my mallard derived breeds use crazy amounts of water. They drink lots of it. Splash it. Turn it into mud. And they love to swim.

I have never had muscovy to compare them to, but I have heard that they aren't as water obsessed.

Like everyone said all of the other ducks love water. I have several different mallard derived breeds and sometimes I think they compete to see who can waste more water. All my muscovy don't bath quite as much. If you want the eggs, just look at egg production or other potential factors. Water needs won't change from one breed to another.

Lol about the water wasting competition! Yeah, it is like that here, too!
