Which chickens for multi colored eggs? Assortment in colors and production?

I am preparing for a Feb chick buy from these folks in he Boise Idaho area. If I go local or semi local, they are an hour and a half away, nothing close to me. https://www.dunlaphatchery.net/Birds/Standards/Standards.aspx

I am wondering which breed of chickens to buy to get many various colors and good solid egg production?

Do you folks buy on line and have your chicks shipped? If so who is a god seller?

I have 10 older chickens now.

Looking to add 20-25 chicks in the spring and a rooster or two.

Looks like brown and white layers. Several mix breeds as well. I bought from ideal hatchery in Texas and was very happy with the chicks!

You have to have breeders close to you, chicken keepers/breeders are everywhere! If you google chicken breeders near me, you'll never turn up anything other than the big hatcheries. Here is the Boise Idaho thread

Link offers mostly white and brown egg choices. See if you can get a handful of Easter Eggers. Their color of eggs will vary from blue,green, pink, brown and shades in between. CCl also know as Cream Colored Legbars, are slightly less available and much sought after. They lay BEAUTIFUL BLUE EGGS. Don't discount brown eggs as well. They add color to your basket regardless.

It's best to get chicks local from breeders or the feed store.
I have also ordered through Ideal and was satisfied.
I have Barred Holland's - white egg
Welsummers - dark brown egg
Buff orphington - light brown egg
Easter egger - olive and light blue egg

What breeds of chickens lay the longest?

Not sex link and/or production birds. They burn out fast is what I’ve read.

I just hit a year in July for having chickens full time. My Australorps, Barred Rocks and sex link have laid very well and so far are still laying while molting.

But every chicken is different. I have 3 of the same breed and 2 lay everyday and the 3rd lays once a week if I’m lucky.

As @AlleysChicks said. Sex Links , do not lay for many years. They also do not live many years. They produce abundance during their short life though. Production reds, as referred to Hatchery grade Rhode Island Reds. They produce well and live longer than Sex links. Heritage breeds are what will lay many years, but not as many eggs per year as the former. The worlds best egg chicken (numbers) is also the worlds most common one as well. White Leghorn. Feed to egg conversion is also at the top.
