Which is better between breeds

Trying to figure out Which is the better breed between black copper and cuckoo marans?

If you are going to show them, the Black Copper has been accepted by the APA.

BCM's lay the darkest eggs of the Maran breed , I learned to my chagrin. After I bought expensive Birchens.

Cuckoo are sexable at birth and I believe the heavier of the Marans if you want a dual purpose meat and egg bird. They are however not as friendly.

I'm not sure any Maran are friendly. They are after all French.

You have to decide which is more important to you.

I have a few BCM by chance. THe boys are standoffish and barely tolerate petting. But have never bitten or attacked me or my family. Mostly they dart away. They seem to be a confident bird: the boys stand up to all my established roosters and the teenage turkeys. ANd are found far beyond any fenced area off into the woods. Can they say "Dinner for one"?

My eggs are quite dark. Have heard the cuckoo are not as dark, but don't know personally. I would consider the cuckoo or birchen to add a variety of dark colors to the egg basket.

My Black Copper Marans are pretty tame. I like their personalities, they are very curious and not skittish. I bent over the other day and one jumped on my back. I have 6 hens and one roo and hope to hatch some more this spring from a different line.

* I'm not sure any Maran are friendly. They are after all French * I certainly cannot agree with this sentiment at all. We have Silver Birchen and so far they are VERY friendly birds. I think their confidence allows them to accept us and be friendly.
