Ok I've got 12 buff orp girls and 7 Roos. Six of the roos are barred rock and one is a rir. The six barred rocks I did not order, they came free in the box for extra warmth. However one of the rocks is much more handsome and bigger and he is king! I originally ordered the rir roo because I wanted him to be the guardian or my lil ladies, however the pecking order didn't work out that way! The rir gets treated just like one of the girls. They are coming up on thier 18th week and I have been trying very hard to find all the rocks a new home being as how i only wan't 1 boy; and i didn't pay for the rocks. They are really cocky and stressing on my girls, we are very close to culling the rocks. I gusee my questions are,

1. should i keep the 1 barred rock roo who is currently king anyway, and get rid of the others including the rir?

2. does anyone know what a buff and barred rock chick would look like?

3. how about a buff and rir, what would it look like?

I know that even if I got rid of all the rock roos including the current boss, my rir would then find his way into the throan, i just wan't the chicks if any to look nice. Thanks in advance! -Donna

If you keep the Barred Rock, all the chicks will have barring, some with blonde/red in their hackle areas, but all barred, nonetheless. With the RIR over Buff Orp, you get MEG! Her legs are white and her everything about her except her color and maybe a little bit her tail are Orpington-like. She's very heavy, too. Most know Nutmeg, but here she is again:

Someone here has my BR over Buff Orp chicks and they are really pretty, too. Tara, are you here? I'll look for her pics.

OH SHE IS VERY HEALTHY LOOKING AND SHE'S A NICE COLOR. SO THIS IS WHAT I'LL GET IF I CROSS MY BUFF ORP AND MY RIR RIGHT? OH HOW GOOD. SHE IS VERY PRETTY. THANK YOU.

Not sure how closely they'll resemble Meg. She comes from some very large breeder stock, very dark RIRs and exhibition size Buff Orpingtons. Should be something like her. You can see the lacing on her feathers on her chest. She's my heaviest hen, too, larger than the Blue Orp ladies!
