I'm new to having three lovely ladies. Started to lay last week....very proud! Their poop has changed dramatically and I don't know what is normal and when I need to attend to a health issue. Is there anyone who can fill me in. Many thanks.:frow

Hi there Jane!! And welcome to Backyard Chickens!! Congratulations on your first eggs!!! So much fun. I know it is gross, but can you post a picture of the poop? That may help us determine what is wrong, if anything. But first, check out this link and see if your chickens poop is in any of the ''normal'' photos. I hope it helps and enjoy BYC!

so glad you have joined us.

If after reviewing the poop pics you still have concerns, do post pics and question under "emergencies" to get some opines.

You can also seem some really different poops depending on diet and treats.

Their poo can change in color, consistency, shape...in many ways. There are some to watch more closely if there is blood for example..a lot of blood. Chickens will even pass some blood once in a while, but it won't be an every day thing. Be careful you don't confuse it with a tomato dropping that you fed them the day before.

Anyway, here is a great site to compare some of the droppings to...

Hi Jane,

Welcome to BYC ! I'm a New Egg here too.

The only 2 things I've read of that may cause a change in droppings are:
1. Change of diet.
2. Going into brooding mode.

Hope this helps ! (};+D)
