I have two stores exactly the same distance away, one carries Kalmbach 20% flock maker pellets and the other has Nutrena 20% all flock pellets. They both come out to 1.7 lbs/$ and am not sure if I should go with one over the other. Any suggestions or does it really not matter?

Picture just for fun 😁

Which is fresher?

I haven’t checked the flock maker but the Nutrena tends to be around 1 month at the store and I a 40-50 lbs bag lasts me around a month. I think I am just going to stop buy the store that sells the kalmbach as they have a really cute store cat so it is a win for me even if the food isn’t fresh lol

I would go with the Kalmbach. The Nutrena only has 0.35% Methionine while Kalmbach has 0.55% Methionine. It may not seem like much of a difference, but when it comes to feather quality and molting I greatly prefer the higher Methionine. It makes a very visible feather difference and for easier molts with my flock.

I just switched to Kalmbach Flock Maker and the chickens seem to love it. The pellets are small but are still way less of a mess than crumble. I have to order mine online but it smells fresher than the dumor feed I was using from TSC.
