Which way should the window face?

Ok, so I just built a mobile coup that has one window in it. I currently have it facing east so they can wake up with the sun, but the girls seem to think that it is bed time at about 5pm, would it help if I turned it so that they got the sunset light inside the coup? Any ideas?

I also have a question about my nesting box. The hens seem to like to roost on the edge of it during the day, and are pooping in it. Why is this, and how do I stop them from doing this?

I have my opening facing the North, but that's a bad idea. I have to closed the doors in the winter time and give them a heat lamp. Wasn't thinking when I built it. But, I was new to chickens at that time.

Mine go in about 5 or 5:30, but stay out later in the summer time.

Most people put a sloped top on their nest box, so they don't roost on top of it.

For the nest box, you might try making the opening smaller.

Is the roost higher than the nest box??? Or cover the nest box so they can't perch on it. Poop in nest boxes is
