White Ancona Duckling/Recessive genes

I am curious as to what would cause an Ancona duckling to hatch with white down instead of yellow? Is that a recessive gene? I have never seen it before, but someone sent me a picture of a duckling that they hatched, but it didn't survive after hatch. We raise anconas and I would love to have more solid information about any recessive genes.
