My husband was giving a pair (we think) of white broad breasted turkey pouts. We want to keep them as pets and purpose of breeding, is this possible?
If so how do we do this, and is it true the female snoot (I think that is what it is called) is smaller then the males?
Any other way to sex them?
Any help would be great!!!!!!!!!

BB whites cannot breed naturally, they have to be artificially inseminated is what I heard. As far as sexing them we will need to see pictures if possible.

?
I didnt want them to eat I wanted something we could use as pets and breed. We have wild turkey eat our feed if they get the chance so we thought why not get some that the kids can get close to?

So they just lay eggs that are not fertile?
Maybe I will have to explain to hubby that his babies will have to be invited to Thanksgiving and christmas.

What type of turkey makes a good pet and breeder?

Unfortunately the outlook is even more bleak than you have been told if they are BB whites. Those birds grow very fast and get very large. So much so they eventually outgrow the ability of their legs to stand or walk and internal organs to keep them alive. If they are BB the earlier you name them for the holidays the better. It also helps getting a couple of nice heritage birds that will make babies and be around for many years to come.

I am glad you told me all that, I would have hated to keep the Turkeys long time and have them suffer through all that! So if we want breeding and pets, we should go with Heritage Turkeys?

yep! dont even try with the BB. they get huge and will eat you out of house and home and then well.. they'll eventually flop over dead. but they are good eatin' if you're ok with butchering them!

now a couple of bourbon reds... thats what you need. wow! they are superfun, like to free range, and are extremely interactive. we just love them!

:)
