White Cochin

She looked like a Cornish cross, which is a meat bird. That may explain her suddwn death; they can develop heart and other issues issues due to their size and fast growth rate if not butchered at the recommended age.

I agree, looking at that chick pic it looks like a Cornish cross. Yours made it longer than a lot of them do!

Thank you all in helping explain her death and helping me come to peace. thank you for helping me find out what breed she was. It is just so saddening they would sell a consumer a chicken that would not even last a year. I am just so glad we got to raise her and very good complement on being able to have in our lives longer than her life expectancy. Thank you

It is hard when we lose animals we've become attached to. I think in your case the hatchery made a mistake in identifying her breed when they sent her because Cornish crosses are never sold as egg layers to my knowledge. I've always seen them sold as broilers/meat birds. Their recommended butchering age is 8 - 10 weeks. They're not bred to live long because they reach market weight so early, but you must have been doing something right to keep her around as long as you did. They are also sold as Cornish Rocks; I'm saying that because I know that people have bought them from places like Tractor Supply thinking they were egg layers (and unfortunately not all store employees are knowledgeable about the birds they sell, though many are) and been put in similar situations as you.

Having a hard time finding one with her legs. She was 8 months old and passed a few days ago suddenly. No sign of trauma. Thinking heart failure or internal egg laying as cause. We got all of our chickens from California hatchery. We were told was an assortment or brown and white egg layers but not what type. I just was trying to see if genetic due to her large size
I let my meat chickens go for about 20 weeks, you was fortunate to have her that long

It was a blessing to have her. We gave her lots of love. These 4 we bought are our first chickens. I guess the first loss is the hardest
