Good Morning BYC family!
We have an approx 8 month old hen, normal size and weight compared to rest of flock.
She had an eye infection about 2 weeks ago (eye was swollen shut) that we treated with terramycin applied 2-3 times a day for a week. Her infection appears fully cleared with no swelling, and she’s back acting 100% normal! Blinking included/affected eye open.
Despite what seems to be a full recovery, her eye has what is either an inner eyelid, or a white film that won’t resolve. We’ve tried to somewhat firmly rub the eye and the white film isn’t moving. My gut reaction was to try to remove, however my doubt as to if it could be her eyelid/inability to safely remove without damaging her eye has me kind of stuck on best course of action?
Her flock has a contained run so she has no risk of predators, and she’s acting/eating/drinking normally and appears back to her old self, so we were split on if this is something we should just leave as is, or if intervention is absolutely needed?
The picture attached was when she was still recovering and her eye at this present time is 100% normal (no swelling, no new gunk being generated, blinking normally from what I can see , etc)
Should we just leave as is and monitor for any kind of further issues? And if intervention is critically important, what would it be?
As always, we are incredibly grateful for the experience and knowledge here!
