My flock consists of 10 white leghorns (hens). Looking for any and all general and specific info on the breed. What's your experience with these girls?

Egg laying machines. Often 5 or 6 large white eggs a week in their prime. There are days my 5 leghorns lay 5 eggs, while my 20 or so other adult hens only lay that many combined. So they're kind of the go-to laying breed.

Some will say they're typically healthier than popular hybrid layers, although that probably depends on specific lines/birds. Ours have been quite hardy. They do have the big single combs so super cold weather can lead to frostbite.

They have a reputation for being flighty/shy but one of ours loves attention. They tend to stay smaller and don't eat as much as larger breeds, especially nice given how they put out eggs. Ours tolerate confinement but like to range. In a mixed flock, ours tend to be towards the top of the pecking order despite their smaller size.

Overall, they're popular birds for a reason and no laying flock should be without some in my opinion. I hope you enjoy them (and are ready for a lot of eggs).

They're the best!!!! The best the best the best!!!
I"ve gotten an egg almost every single day from mine (skipping when she had a double yolker the day before, and when there was a huge storm and it was cloudy all day) and she has such a wonderful personality. They have a great feed to egg ratio and definitely eat less than my RSLs. Mine is definitely shyer than my others, but only really when I'm trying to pick her up.

White Leghorn keepers, can any of you help me out with pictures?

My local contact fell through, so I'm in desperate need of pictures or videos of four individual White Leghorn hens to use in an FFA poultry judging contest.

Pictures would need to include as many of the following pictures (https://national4hpoultry.ca.uky.edu/files/pjmanual-pastproductionhens.pdf) as possible for each hen. Ideally, there would be some difference in pigmentation and feathering across the four hens.

I need pictures by Friday, March 5th. I know it is short notice, but if someone has some time to help, please let me know. Pictures can be sent to [email protected] and you will have all the virtual cookies/hugs you can want!

We have 2 White LH, 1Barred Rock, and 1 Asian Black. Our Leghorns are definitely flightier and smaller, without fail when we try to round them up after free ranging the Leghorns are the most difficult to confine and they’re sneaky. But they’re also curious/friendly and e most likely to come hang out near us/follow us around. Their eggs are the largest of our 3 breeds but they lay a similar amount. We’re getting 3-4 eggs/day between to 4 pullers and it alternates who doesn’t lay. (The Asian black being the “laziest” of the 4 🤪). And our LHs LOVE to dust bathe and get the messiest out of all of them

Here’s one of girls after an actual bath/blow dry because she had bled all over herself and caked dirt into the blood. (We found chickens are surprisingly easier to bath/dry than a cat 🙃who knew?!?)

Leghorns are great birds in a flock. I have a white Leghorn (had 2 hawk got one) that just goes about her business and could care less to see me unless I have treats. Excellent winter layer also. Only down fall is with the white ones they seem to be more prone to hawk attacks.
