The top of the pecking order white leghorn would attack one of my son's today. She was acting like a rooster would. Just him and would charger and puff out her chest and attack his pants and shoes.
He is one that spends a lot of time with the ladies and loves them dearly.
Is there anything to do with the lady? She is 7/8 months old and other then being top pecking order never had an issue.

How old is your son ? If he is not scared of the hen, he should force her to the ground with both hands if she comes at him. Hold her there until she stops struggling and repeat until she gives up. If he is young or scared of her, she would have to go if she were mine. Kids come first.

He is 6. Didn't seem to scared thought she was funny he pushed her away with his foot not hard and she would leave. But if she was close to him again she did it. .
We will try that method he is not scared of them. Most of them are his babies.

Pushing with your foot or swatting at them inspires them to fight back. Holding them down is all about dominance. I have never had a hen who could not have her bad attitude adjusted. Most of the human aggressive roosters ended up in the oven.

No roosters just 10 hens first time she has try this. Will show him what to do with her just in case it happens again. Will give it a shot if it does not work she will be gone for good not going to take any chances.

How many days would you give it a try.
She is attacking me now while in the run and coop. You will walk and she will attack my feet and legs good thing for boot right......
I tried the dominance twice and she seemed to have got board with me after that. We will see how she does tomorrow.

Saddest part is that it is his favorite chicken and it has always been very sweet till now

What a sweet pic! Glad to see he's wearing glasses to protect this eyes from pecks.
It's great he's not afraid of them, calm and confident go a long ways.
Understanding the social order will go even farther.

Have had this happen several times, mostly with hand fed chicks often as they come of age and get spunky. It's pretty easily curbed with calm and deliberate determination.

I peck them back, on the head or anywhere I can reach, with the tips of thumb and first 2 fingers, as hard and fast as many times as I can before they get away. Well, not hard enough to hurt them, just startle them and let them you mean business. That's what another chicken would do, so they understand that kind of communication.

If that doesn't work after a couple applications, I hold them down to the ground with my hand on their back until they submit....again firmly enough to get the job done but not hurt them....add a few finger pecks and/or tug on the feathers on the back of their neck.
