White or Gray matter around vent has caused deaths

These are adult silkies. One rooster has had this and has now infected some of my other chickens. Several have died.

Does anyone know what this is? I'm really worried now.
 
do you think it might be gleet? a yeast infection? you can try monostat,in the area then neostatin in water plus probiotics if it's a yeast infection. does it smell? lookup gleet in chickens and read symptoms. sounds like a match.
 
Thanks Realsis. It is certainly something to consider. I take acidophilus all the time myself, so I have some on hand. I have the Bragg's vinegar and epsom salt too.

I paid an online vet and she said to give them panacur and treat them for coccidia.

I'll start with the coccidia and worming, then work my way on to the treatment for gleet. Hopefully one of those will work.

I certainly appreciate you responding.
