What is happening to our chickens eggs? We are bringing in 1-2 eggs from a dozen that are green and spoiled inside. Smell terrible. But the other eggs are fine. None of the chickens seem sick. I read it can be Pseudomonas bacteria. I know nothing about this and are the other eggs ok to eat or not? What if I hard-boiled eggs together to then find the bad eggs. Are the others safe to eat?

Thank you all so much!

I’m not sure what could be wrong. A chickens diet can change how the eggs taste /look sometimes, with fish supposedly making them taste fishy and marigolds making darker yolks as examples, so it could be something like that, or a sick chicken. Could you post pictures?
As for how to tell before I would say just crack alll eggs you use into separate container first, one at a time, then use.

A picture would definitely help a lot. Is there a possibility these are really old eggs you've forgotten to collect so then they go rancid by the time you collect them? Another possibility is maybe there is a crack in the egg (they sometimes aren't noticeable until candling) from being pecked and bacteria gets in.

Thank you thats a good idea about the small crack and bateria getting in. We have had chickens for 8 years now and I've never seen this.

Pseudomonas is a type of bacteria that likes to live in moist, dark places (dog ears) and can produce a nasty smell and greenish discharge, it is a possible causative agent but it could easily be some other bacteria as well. Unless this is a one time thing (cracked eggs allowed bacteria to get in) you likely have a hen with salpingitis: bacterial infection of the repro tract. The bacteria are getting into the egg pre-installation of the shell if the shells aren’t cracked. Start with trying to identify the hen (put a couple in a small pen, collect eggs and see where the stinky hen is, continue swapping out birds until you id the culprit). You can then try treating the bird (have your vet send in a couple bad eggs for culture and sensitivity so you know what antibiotics to use along with access to the drugs). But it can be very difficult to fully clear a uterine infection so keep that in mind, flare ups and a sick bird are also possible.
