White Rock with Barring??? New Pic on last post!

Barred rocks are recessive white and occasionally recessive white will leak red/gold. The barring is due to the barring gene and it is not unusual to find barring in white rocks. The birds siblings are most likely pure white. Stuff happens.

Well whatever he is he is beautiful and I think I am keeping him! So far that makes 3 roos from our 104 that have earned a spot OUTSIDE of the freezer

Yup, he has a hidden (well, not so hidden now) barring gene. Good looking bird!

I have an EE that is yellow with lighter yellow/white barring. I have both of her parents and neither of them even hint at barring. She's very pretty though!

Yes, he can pass that on to offspring, though probably not all. I found that my Blue Orpington rooster has a hidden barring gene when his own black son produced a chick that was barred and then, here at my own place, a barred chick hatched from my Blue Orp over my RIR/Buff Orp cross hen. It looked like a badly barred BR cockerel. It was only two out of many chicks he's produced, but still, it's always possible to get barred birds from your boy.

Here he is, the roo I started this thread about. I love him he's so pretty! The light cream barring is hard tosee in the pic, but REALLY stands out in person.
