Just picked up a Silky rooster from a friend at work. She had another rooster and they were fighting.
She said he was fairly quiet but would breed our girls.
Got him home and he is real shy with our hens.
I haven't seen him breed any yet. But i did hear him crow a few times yesterday.
We have had him for about 5 days now. Our other chickens are 2 barred rocks, 2 Australorps, and 1 Wyandot.
Our girls are about 2 years old and have always layed brown colored eggs.
Today i went out to get eggs and we have a large pure white egg.
So my thinking is we have one weird silky hen or one of our big laying hens didn't produce color on her egg.
I will post a picture of the new silky and of the white egg we just got.
Looking at the size of the egg i am leaning towards it being a white egg from a brown egg layer but if so has anyone else had this happen?
What do you guys think?
And how can i tell if the new silky is truly a rooster?
Thank you - Just joined your website

Welcome to BYC! I am not sure what your silkie is, I don't do silkies really. I just wanted to say my silver laced wyandotte laid a pure white egg once. Can you separate him/her and see if you get an egg?

I will try to post the pictures again. And thank you guys for your replys.
Here is a little more of a close up of the saddle and of his foot/leg some one told me look for spurs to tell if it is a rooster.

My GLW eggs are almost always white/cream. Maybe your wyandotte just started laying after a molt or something? It looks like a rooster to me. You can feel the width of the pelvic bones maybe. For LF they have to be at least 2 finger lengths wide for an egg to pass through. Not sure about bantys though

Yes that was what i was thinking as well, separating it. Seems it might be the only sure way to find out. I do have the one wyandotte, maybe the pure white egg is from her. Thank you
