Who’s my mommy?

Hello Everyone,

My name is Chicken Surprise. I only hatched on Wednesday. The reason for my name is because my owner wasn’t expecting me. She was trying to hatch my New Hampshire/Dominique Dom cross hatch mates. Somehow, my egg got mixed in with the hatching eggs. So here I am! The question is, what am I? My daddy is the easy part. There are two roosters in the main flock; a Black Cochin and a Buff Orpington. Clearly, my daddy isn’t a Black Cochin. So I am half Buff. So, what is my other half? My owner says that my Mommy could be a Buff Orpington, Delaware, or New Hampshire hen. It is a small possibility that my mom Could be a Leghorn cross, but my owner thinks it isn’t likely because their eggs don’t look like mine did. Here is my egg. I had just started hatching.

P.S. My owner says she knows we can’t figure this out for sure until I grow up a bit, but for now, we can just have fun guessing!

What sort of comb does this chick have? The down color indicates dominant white, which is known to hide in Buff Orpington lines.

Much too young to even speculate. Please post new photos at 6-8 weeks of age, once the chick is feathered out.

well, heck..I'll take a stab, sheesh..lol!! Not Dominique. Not Deleware..could be but even a few days you would see the grey on the wing tips. New Hampshires chicks are more red tone and your Cornish,Cochin are dark. Gonna say, Buff/Buff or Buff/Mix. That's the best I got.

What sort of comb does this chick have? The down color indicates dominant white, which is known to hide in Buff Orpington lines.

Single comb. How can you see dominant white already? The down looks pretty much like my pure buff chicks did.

Appears to be white/yellow down rather than the buttery gold of Buff. The first feathers look more white than buff.
Single comb rules out the Dominique.

Need to learn something today. Does Cochin chicks have down on their shanks from birth? Never owned one.
