Who has really good black marans, NOT copper black.

I am wondering if anyone seriously breeds this variety any more. Seems like the copper blacks may be the demise of straight blacks... Anyone know any breeders with red eyed (or even gold or brown) and hopefully feather legged and have dark eggs?

I think Bev Davis has solid black.

Well, someone in the Marans Chicken Club named Totrllamas has pictures of Blacks posted. The Rooster actually has some other color on his hackles it looks like, but he is not BC and the hens in the pics don't look like BC either; they are absolutely jet black. Also,hHave you tried Margaret (Endless Farm)? She has just almost every variety . I think she even had Columbian.

Not sure how true to type they are or anything, that's such an uncommon variety, but it sounds like it would be a fun project to bring the variety along.

I may end up with some next year. I plan to breed my wonderful looking single barred rooster to a cuckoo hen. As I understand,I will get some blacks from that mating.

How is your egg color? I only have one black hen laying, and her eggs I am happy with. They are the dark ones in this basket.
