Too vast a canvas to be covered by anything but the reader's imagination. SFC should have fallen back on his Hadon series. They might have gotten away with The Unreasoning Mask (individual neural patterns of billions of humans traipsing around beneath the psychedelically scrimshawed surface of the basketball sized Glyfa), much easier to paint (on a budget) than that of the scene that greets Sir Richard Burton when he wakes up, along with the rest of humanity, there on the River.
