Hello!

Two of my hens just started laying, the leghorn yesterday and the brown egg was today. They are 20 weeks old today!

I wasn't expecting a brown egg this soon and I'm trying to figure out who it is. This brown is quite a bit darker than I expected also. I have one each of these; RIR, RIW, Amber star, SLW, and brahma. I was thinking the Amber star since that is a leghorn RIR cross but I expected a very light brown egg.

What do you think?

Also, the white specks are extra calcium, right? They are still on starter/grower and I'm giving them kitchen scraps and crushed up egg shells as a calcium supplement.

thanks in advance! :)

Nice egg! Most likely from your RIR. The speckling is from the "bloom". This washes off, but you do not need to.
Looks like your white egg has a few calcium deposits on it. This is also harmless.😊
