just got a few new girls in the last week and found an interesting egg this morning. it is smaller, more slender and more brown than the eggs i get from my girls. the new hens i got are : barred rock, golden laced polish, two auracanas, and 5 almost-mature black australorps.

i am guessing this was laid by my polish girl? what do you think?

I think that looks like a pullet egg. Most likely one of your Australorps just gave you her first good go at egg-laying. Grats!

I can remember my grandfather getting small eggs like that...and even smaller...from young pullets that were just beginning to lay for the first time. They were so neat! Most of those, esp the smallest, didn't contain yolks but some did.

i would guess barred rock as my aussie doesnt lay that dark of an egg she lays a light tented egg and my polish has yet to lay but i think they lay white eggs
