Hi everyone!

Do the eggs on the same plate look like they are from the same bird? On the upper plate the second egg is slightly pinker. On the lower plate, the second egg is lighter in color, but has a similar elongated shape.

I’m thinking the top two are my Barred Rock’s, and the bottom two are my Delaware’s. Does this sound likely or does the slight color variation indicate different layers? More details on my breeds below.

My girls are 24 and 25 weeks old and the following breeds: Plymouth Barred Rock; Delaware (who definitely laid one of the right hand eggs, as they were warm and I saw her in the nest box); Salmon Faverolles (very small for the breed, almost a bantam); and Bielefelder. BTW, the left eggs are the very first two eggs, if that matters.

Egg color can change but generally the shape of an egg stays the same from each hen. The bottom egg color reminds me of my faverolle eggs. I've never owned a Delaware so I don't know if they lay that color. The top looks like barred rock eggs.

Good point about color changing but not shape. I’ve definitely found the color changes in my darker color layers but hadn’t seen this in my lightest layers previously , so it’s good to hear that from someone else.
