I know *just* what you mean, cause I do it too. So glad to hear someone else does this.
My turkeys are trainable! My tom turkey won't go inside the coop himself, but every evening I walk behind him toward the coop and he knows the routine now so when I come out at dusk he just gets up and walks to the coop with me trailing about 7 feet behind.
Also, my hen and chicks are in a small pen, so every day i let them out for an hour or so. They all rush out and down their ramp, wander around for a while, then when mom hen sees me coming back she waits for me to open the pen door, the little ones all fly back into the pen (because I put food out) and then she hops in too. The first couple of times it was hard and I had to chase and herd her, but I think she "gets it" now and she'll just hop in pretty much when I want her too.
Turkeys *seem* to be trainable. They have excellent eyesight and good hearing and I've noticed they respond to my pointing or snapping my fingers. they seem to *want* to do what I want them to.
Who knew? Some people think turkeys are dumb!
